Nexon, one of the world’s largest game publishers, has partnered with Polygon, the top protocol for Web3 gaming, to build a dedicated blockchain ecosystem for its massively popular game, MapleStory Universe. With over 180 million registered users, MapleStory has been one of Nexon’s most successful games, and the new blockchain ecosystem will further expand the game’s already robust in-game economy through NFT-based items.
Nexon is set to build a dedicated Polygon Supernet to meet the complex requirements of the massively online gaming experience of MapleStory Universe. The new blockchain will enable players to earn and collect NFT items through gameplay, unlocking various benefits or utility across the ecosystem. Sun-young Hwang, group leader for MapleStory Universe, said, “We are looking forward to expanding the NFT ecosystem envisioned by MapleStory Universe by building on Polygon. Polygon is already home to many significant blockchain gaming projects and publishers, including Ubisoft, Atari, Animoca, Decentraland, Somnium Space, and The Sandbox. With over 220 million unique user addresses, the Polygon ecosystem offers tens of thousands of decentralized apps and major global enterprises like Robinhood, Stripe, and Adobe.
